rain, rain and more rain

I woke up this morning, ready for my 12 miler, only to look out and see it pouring outside, really pouring. Its never enough rain to stop me from going out, but I thought i’d be smart about it and at least let it try to clear up a bit before heading out. So after waiting almost an hour, and constantly checking the weather reports over and over and over, I decided that it was time to just suck it up and head out.

I compared going out this morning to like jumping in a pool (thats not heaed), you know its going to be rough to start, but after a few minutes, its not too bad. Well that was the case here .. I headed out, and once I got wet, I was wet. I realized though that I should never get into the field of meteorology, because throughout the first 8 miles, I kept saying that each time it slowed down that it seemed like the end of the rain … WRONG, it always started pouring even harder. I decided to stop that game, and by mile 9, it had pretty much stopped raining. It didn’t help that I was soaked already, but it was a nice relief.

There was one other trooper out there with me this morning though, in the pouring rain, doing a run. It makes me wonder what the other marathon trainers did this morning since it was raining pretty much all morning. Maybe they went out later, who knows.

So my knee seems to not be getting any worse, but its not necessarily getting any better. I don’t think its a muscle injury, but I do think its the first stages of arthritis .. I just have a feeling that i’ll be in pain probably about 10 years out or so, but we’ll worry about it then I guess.

Other than that, i’ve wrapped up yet another week of training, which takes me a week closer to the first marathon, which is now just over a month away… its been a long summer so far, but training has done a lot for me, i’m feeling much more confident about the fall season now (much better than i felt in the spring when I bagged my marathon hopes)..

Its supposed to be brutally warm the next few days, so i’m not sure what that will do for my morning runs, but lets hope for no rain tomorrow … i’ve had enough for a few days.
