I kept to my motto today of ‘no excuses’ even during a major winter storm as I headed out to get in whatever miles I could. We got around 4-5 inches of snow by 5:30am today, and i still got in just under 2 miles in spite of it .. it wasn’t easy, and I really couldn’t do too much more (because hardly anything was plowed yet), but I still got it in. I then came in and jumproped and lifted weights and was BEAT .. that jumproping is great cardio and makes the whole body sore! This is the difference between the ‘old’ way and the ‘new’ way.. NO EXCUSES to not work out!

I have to correct myself when I wrote yesterday about the Lehigh Valley Hospital marathon (and now half marathon) .. I hadn’t realized that the half marathon actually starts at the same time as the full marathon, but starts 13.1 miles ahead of the marathoners .. thats actually a great idea (I wish other race directors would take that lead). The extra runners will be gone by the time we get there (most will probably be finished) .. thumbs up to the folks running it! Thats another great reason to run the race that supports a great cause.. I should also note that in addition to running for my daughter Sierra this year, I’ll also be running for my step-daughters baby (my grand-daughter), who was born in September with Down Syndrome. Two great reason to raise alot of money for the cause!

So hopefully tomorrow we can get back into the swing of things with a normal workout .. its not supposed to be quite so brutally cold the next couple days, which will help as I continue to count the days until the spring… but until then, I continue to not make excuses to cheat on my diet, and to not workout hard. Today I thought back to November when I was thrilled that I got in just under 2 miles (in a hotel gym), and then went and ate waffles with syrup for breakfast, then headed out for supper at Long John’s and then had Ben and Jerrys ice cream (a whole pint) for a snack .. yeah, i’m feeling it now, eh?

My hope is to get on the scale on Friday morning and see the 2 week result .. hopefully i’m going the right direction. I have a tough weekend with family coming to stay, then my daughters birthday party, and then the superbowl, I have to keep motivated (and theres no excuse to not eat good and to not get my workout in) …
