My zones are set for now

zones

I wrote earlier in the week that I finished up my FTP testing for the bike, and on Friday and then Saturday, I finished up setting my zones for the swim and for the run. The goal in the short term is to just maintain where I am but continue to take it easy and recover from the many months of hard Ironman training in prep for next season.

Here is how everything worked out …

In yet another revelation, I’ve come closer to understanding what my training plan and schedule will look like for the upcoming year, as I mentioned already, Tridot is no longer an option for 2019, I just didn’t see it adding value to me in the way that others do. Again, I can’t say that it doesn’t work and can help the right athlete be successful, it is just not for me. Being a business and life coach myself, I know that not everything is right for everyone and for the right athlete, they may find a ton of value.

So where does that leave me?

I want to stay with using TrainingPeaks .. I like the data in it and i’m comfortable with everything it does. I looked into some of the 36 week plans that they offer and found a coaching organization that I did some research on, they are called “My Pro Coach”, and its run by an endurance junkie named Phil Mosley. He is based in the UK, but that doesn’t really matter.

My goal is to be able to significantly increase my performance (meaning get faster) while still feeling great doing it. Kind of like what I did this year… so it needs to be flexible to fit my lifestyle, challenging (structure) and effective. I think this guy might be able to help me. So at this point I am planning a 36 week journey to Ironman Maryland (announcement coming soon, stay tuned), which will start in about 7-8 weeks (need to calculate it).

This means I have a few weeks to take it easy and be unstructured before things kick in.

Not totally committed yet, but I’ll get there even though my race calendar has been posted. I’m doing my homework on this coaching organization first, making sure their approach fits who I am, and what I believe … we preach this with the clients I work with. It matters, it really does. I had a triathlon coach years back that I just went with without really knowing who he was and although I finished my season, it was FAR below my ability.

More information to come on the 2019 season and some other things going on in life … stay tuned!
