Its been a few days since i’ve posted, I guess you can say i’m going through ‘blog’-withdrawal. lol Anyway, I started something new in my training this week, its the well known yoga variation called Pilates .. I know, you usually classify this with women, but its not made for just women, it was actually created by a man (Joseph Pilates). I’m doing a variation of it called Pilates4Runners, which I found at http://www.pilates4runners.com .. I spent a couple bucks and so far so good. Some of the moves are tough, but its getting easier … its all about the core man! The idea is that this program is supposed to help me run better and hopefully stay injury free. For anyone following my running progress since April when I started the blog, I’ve always had something sore, or hurting or whatever, it really sucked. I’m two sessions into it, they say you should feel a difference after 10 .. its weird, but I kind of feel one already.
I had a decent week of running, picking up the pace a little bit. I think I realized on Tuesday that I am not running as fast as I probably should be when i’m training, hence the fact I died at the end of the marathon. I actually did my 10 mile run today, through the hills of the back mountain, in 90 minutes, which means I maintained a 9-minute mile on hills … I could never do that during marathon training on flat courses. I don’t know if its just because I’ve had two speed workouts this week, or if its the Pilates, who knows. I still have to compare it to my time last year training on the same routes for the same race.
I do have a race upcoming next week, the Fall trail run at Frances Slocum State Park … its not the more formal of races, and i’ve never done trail running before, so i’m kind of excited about the change of pace. We’ll keep up running the hills and maintaining a stronger pace this week in prep for that (since there will be hills, plus the Diamond run is full of hills).
Oh well, its a cross-train tomorrow, which some more Pilates then on to another week of running … its getting tougher to run outside with the weather, I hope it doesn’t get too brutal before Thanksgiving … One last note, since I started with the chiropractor and A.R.T., my Achilles has been feeling great. The Pilates also helps it also …
