I’m thankful that I got through my 13 miler today (actually 13.3 miles) because I started the day with some bad luck … I had what some what would say “stomach distress” about 20 minute before I headed out. It delayed me for over 45 minutes before I was able to get out .. and yes, I headed out with ‘paper’ in a baggy in my pocket in case I needed to make a pit stop along the way. Hey, i’ve done it before, and would do it again if necessary.
Regardless, I looked back on what I ate yesterday, and the only different thing I ate was a Kash 5-cheese pizza for dinner last night. They are actually really good, low in calories and healthy for you. I usually eat that one or the garlic chicken pizza … good stuff. Anyway, it was either that or the Airborne i’ve been taking since everyone around me has been sick. I dunno, but either way it didn’t bother me after I headed out and hasn’t since, but we’ll see.
I was happy that I finally convinced myself that I could do at least the half marathon distance .. not well maybe, but at least I could do it. Now I have to work on fine tuning it. The run wasn’t bad (although I scheduled a lot of hills on the course), and the weather was cold when I headed out, but warmed up as the run went on. There really was no bad aspect to the run today, i’m looking forward to the warmer weather tomorrow. FINALLY!
The thing that I forget as I’m starting to ramp up the miles is that I have to start hydrating Friday night and Saturday morning before the run. I felt myself dehydrated as I headed out, which isn’t a good thing, and I have yet to buy a new fuel belt .. thats on the agenda, but not there yet. Remember always to drink water, lots of water!
I got yet another postcard today from Marathon Foto reminding me about my finisher pictures from the Marine Corps Marathon. Sorry, not interested. I looked terrible and defeated, its not worth the ripoff price that they charge for them.. yet another reminder of the struggles of running a marathon. I keep that day in the back of my head as I plan to continue ramping miles in the hopes of doing a late spring marathon .. the agony of defeat … i’ll never forget it.
Anyway, another update tomorrow … stay healthy and good running to you!
