Even though I didn’t feel 100% today, I still headed out for my 16 miler, and actually got in 16.4 miles along the Lehigh Canal trails from Allentown to the east and back. I knew in the first few miles that I wasn’t feeling right, not sure if I was slightly feverish or if the antibiotic that i’m on for my ear infection was just playing games with me. I’m not sure which doctor over the years told me that I shouldn’t be doing heavy exercise while on an antibiotic, but hey, gotta get my run in. Its bad enough i’m short miles this week already, i at least have to get the long run in.
So I did pretty good anyway, running 16.4 miles in 2 hours and twenty minutes. I found myself trying to push the pace too much, but I kept on about an 8:30/mile for the most part. its a little faster than maybe I should be going, but it felt like a comfortable pace. I think that the big things that are hurting me right now (besides being sick) is not getting enough sleep and still being heavier than i’d like to be. I know that over time I will lose the weight, but it doesn’t help my long run right now ..
One thing that I found humorous today while running was the way the geese were hissing at me as I passed by them. I realize they were protecting their young, but it was scary, I thought about the images I saw on AFV where kids were getting attacked by geese … maybe I over-thought the whole thing, but I knew well enough to stay away …
I found out on Friday that a person in my department at work is running the Nike womens marathon, I guess its in San Francisco??? It seems like a long way to go from Pennsylvania to run your first marathon, but everyone has their reasons for doing what they do … good luck to her!
There were some nice people out today running that I ran into along the trails … its always nice to pass fellow runners, helps make the run a little easier I think ..
Hopefully i’ll get over this cold/infection in the next few days so i can focus training harder without the fear of getting more sick ..
