So I made it a priority this week to start building out a training plan for my first sprint triathlon in May .. and the funny thing is that from the research I did, the planned workouts are about half of the time and distance that I do now. This had one major effect on me … it built my confidence that I could actually finish the sprint triathlon, but also made me set my sights on a longer triathlon later in the year ..
Then, just when I was questioning myself, I had the best swim session so far in this off-season. My intention on Wednesday morning was to push from a 200m continuous lap from a 300m, but ended up doing a 400m instead (yes, a 1/4 mile). It was such a rush when I finished it .. I guess you can say it was like when I finished my first 5K so many years ago .. it was an awesome feeling. Either way, I know that i’m just 57 meters from the goal distance in May. Of course I’ve got to push beyond the goal swim distance by 100-200m, but its good to know i’m right there at least and only after 2 months of swimming…
I’ve got my eyes on the Wilkes-Barre Triathlon in August as my next step up in being a triathlete… just because its my hometown, which means I know the terrain and the area. I actually did the run portion on a relay team back in 2006, so i’m familiar with the race itself to some degree. its about a mile swim, 25 mile bike and an 11K … i guess I shouldn’t get too far ahead of myself, but hey, its good to set a goal, right?
Its funny how quick I forget about marathons with my obsession … but rest assured I expect to be running one in the fall if all goes well (yep, NYC if I get accepted)…
