I decided to head out today despite the fact that I have this lingering knee pain .. and sometimes its for the good because it actually feels better today than it did yesterday, when I did no activity at all. Its funny how that works. Don’t get me wrong, I had to cut my pace way back (so slow that it took 3 hours, 11 minutes to do 21 miles) in order to not cause an issue, but I got the run in. By the time I got to mile 12 though, my knee wasn’t even bothering me, and strange enough, my OTHER knee started bothering me…
I’m convinced that the pain is just from overuse, which is my indicator that I need to start to ramp down the miles a bit and focus on the runs that I need to focus on, like the long run, the mid-week long run and my Sunday run. I’ll probably cut the Tuesday run down a bit, and make the Monday run a real recovery run, at least in the short term, but we’ll see how it goes. I’ve ramped up the ibprofen, the ice, the aspercreme and even over-spent on new Mizuno Hurricane shoes .. which isn’t my normal brand, but since they didn’t have my normal brand, they’ll have to do. I do think that the fact my shoes were shot didn’t help my knees at all, so i’m hoping that by treating myself well in the next few days, the pain will subside.
Unfortunately I was a victim of dehydration again today .. I made it to about mile 15 until I realized I was in bad shape, even though I still had water left in my bottle, it just wasn’t enough. I got real out of breath, and started sweating and felt fatigued, but I got through it and pushed it to the end. I guess you can say i’m getting used of being dehydrated, which probably isn’t a good thing, but as I head into marathon season, its probably not a bad thing.
We’ll see how the next few days go .. i’m more concerned about how the knees will feel in the morning, as they can get better or worse overnight, but hopefully they’ll get better or stay the same…
