I’ve found that the addition of the Wii Active to my daily routine is actually a little change from the same old normal routine. I really found a liking for the cardio boxing and the sports exercises (basketball, tennis, volleyball). I also found a liking for the resistance weights as well .. it seems to provide me just what I mean, the ability to work my muscles to ‘tone’ them with lean muscle, not build heavy muscle (which i don’t want). Best part is that I don’t have to have a gym membership to do what I want, nor do I need anybody to play sports with … pretty cool. I’m not sure if this is considered ‘cross training’ or not, but if it helps my marathon training, I guess its good..
As I mentioned a few weeks back, I found that changing up my running courses is really helping to keep things new and fresh .. for example I did a different 10 miler today then I did for yesterdays 10 miler. It was a little more difficult because it had more hills, but is a different workout. I have another 2 10 mile courses to mix in, which i’ll do for next week before starting to add more miles to that even.
My workouts are getting easier, which means that as I head into week 7 next week, I have to continue to add intensity, in the form of speed and hillwork. There are plenty of hills for me to add, but the hard part is adding the speed (which I really need). Its tough not having a measured mile to work with to know what my real pace is .. I can only guess for the most part. I guess we’ll have to figure something out.
Some good news came back from the ultrasound I had done for my liver on Tuesday morning, it was normal. I kind of figured I was okay since the enzyme that was slightly high was the AST enzyme, which is created in other places besides the liver. Apparently the breakdown of skeletal muscle also creates the enzyme, and for the abuse i’m putting my body through each day, its no surprise that its high..
The weekend is supposed to be nice, so i’m planning for the first 20 miler of the season. I don’t have any specific plans this weekend, so its a good chance to get out and do what I love to do, RUN! its hard to believe though that there is only 11 weeks until the Lehigh Valley Health Network Marathon … it seems like yesterday that I registered (back in March), it’ll be here before we know it.
So i’m off to do the Wii Active .. and then get to bed early to head out for my morning speedwork. We’re going to do 7 milers total, with 3.5 being at 3:35/half mile (800’s), it was rough last week to complete, hopefully it won’t be so bad tomorrow.
