For anybody that follows my blog, be assured that I have not forgotten about it. Things are just terribly busy right now, and i’m not quite sure when I can fit in typing in the blog. I can’t write at work, and by the time I get home at night, I have things to do and i’m tired, so I don’t ever get to it. I am still running and training towards the Harrisburg marathon on November 11th, although I do have a story to share …
I was asked at work to attend something called Oracle OpenWorld, which is in California and runs Nov 11th to Nov 15th. Yep, Nov 11th it starts …. so I struggled with the thought of running a marathon on the morning of the 11th, then jumping in a car and going to the airport and then flying 6 hours to California and didn’t know what to do.
So I thought I would skip Harrisburg, and instead do the Philly marathon the next weekend … problem though is that it would just be too busy that weekend to really fit it into my schedule and i’m setting myself up to fail (with traveling all week, and then teaching that weekend, then getting there) … plus the fact that I wouldn’t be able to stay in the city because ALL the hotels are booked up already (I checked most of them). So that idea isn’t going to work … so i decided that going to OpenWorld is a once in a lifetime thing, and that I would just skip the marathon and come back and run another day …. well, the plot thickens…
I then get to work on Thursday and are told that its not a sure thing that I’m going to OpenWorld (after I already had it in my head that I was going to skip Harrisburg). BOY WAS I MAD! So then I said, well, whatever happens, will happen … I’m going to run Harrisburg regardless, and i’ll just make it work even if I get to California later than I want to.
So I am getting ready to head out on my 20 miler this morning and thought I would write before it instead of after it (which never seems to happen). It was really a tough week of having to make decisions, then my employer really pissed me off with changing their mind around. At this rate, I don’t even care if I goto that or not….
I’m up to almost 50 miles this week scheduled, although next week I have to swap Tuesday and Friday because I have to be somewhere early on Tuesday so I can’t run … but next week should be another 50+ mile week (another 20 scheduled), so I should be ok.
I’ve recovered well from Steamtown and am looking forward to the long run today, just waiting for my son to get together so I can get on my way …. maybe i’ll try to write again tomorrow, it just depends on the schedule!
