a pretty good 20-miler

I did a pretty good job on my first 20-miler of the season, cranking it out at 3:07 in the mild temperatures today. Thankfully there was no rain or anything, but there was also not any sun, it was a dreary damp day since it rained last night. I’m finding that my overall long run pace is a little down from late last year, but I’m also finding that i’m not totally wiped out after running 20 (even this early in the season)… I did have a little concern today around mile 15 when I felt a slight tweak in my left hamstring, it bothered me for a few minutes, but then went away, thankfully. I feel its a little sore now, but I think it was just a spasm, hopefully.

In checking the training schedule, i’ve got just 7 weeks until the first marathon, wow, time really flies! I’ve got the Ocean Drive 10 miler coming up in just 2 weeks now after another 20 miler next week. After the OD run, I have 3 straight 20+ milers, then I taper, then the race. I guess I should begin planning the following marathon after that. I wrote that I wanted to do the God’s Country marathon in the beginning of June, which I think is what I’ll do. I then have to decide whether I’ll truck forward for my first ultra (50K version).

Well, another 10 miles are on deck for tomorrow, hopefully the weather will hold out and be great for another day. In checking the week’s weather, I think the tide is changing toward better weather, so I hope it keeps up (NO SNOW or FREEZING COLD!!)
