I didn’t get a chance to write this weekend since I was traveling for the holiday, however I managed to get my 14 miler in, at a good pace yesterday, but brought on an issue with my foot that I probably don’t need right now. It seemed that around mile 9 or 10, my right foot, right at the joint with my shin was getting extremely sore .. it wasn’ that it ‘hurt’ per se, say it was sore like it needed to be stretched (i think it was swollen). I managed to finish the run without issue, and even after the run, it didn’t feel that bad until about an hour afterward when my entire shin and lower shin was sore … I was thinking, oh boy, not good, we’re a week out from the first marathon. I realized also that after the run, I had grabbed my OLD shoes to run in, not my new ones, and they were pretty worn out.. I think that was the cause (since this was the foot that really gets beat up)…

So as the day went on yesterday, it got better until finally in the evening it was gone totally. As I noted we were away for the weekend, so I decided to skip my 3-4 miler this morning to give my foot an extra day to rest, plus I was tired. Its better to let it rest and come back to run another day then to push it and hurt it even more. On the way home in the car today, it started to get sore again, but not quite in the same spot, however I did notice a little swelling, so i’m treating it as a slight injury and will keep the miles down this week so I can run the race next weekend. I’ll try to get out tomorrow for a few miles just to test it out, but are on the foot ice baths, ibuprofen and elevation for it for now, i’ll report back as it gets either better or worse, this really isn’t what I needed right now …

Its hard to think that next week at this time, the Lehigh Valley Hospital Marathon will be in the books, and we’ll be preparing for Steamtown, I just hope this foot holds up. There were some early reports that rain might be expected for next Sunday from tropical storm Hanna, not Hurricane Gustav like I wrote about earlier in the week, its just a crap shoot as to what day it might be around (if it is at all). I’m not against running in the rain, its just not my preference I guess (and it will kill any chance of a good time).
