I did a slow 8 miles today since I wasn’t feeling too great, but still got the miles in. My left hamstring was a little sore, not sure why, it only seemed to bother me while running (it isn’t bothering me now), but I don’t think its anything serious. I decided it was safer to take an easy run instead of pushing it and injuring myself. Its weird to think that I just completed the last ‘real’ run of this training cycle before the Lehigh Valley Hospital Marathon this weekend .. I might go out for a few miles tomorrow just to keep fresh and will definitely go out Saturday for a few miles before traveling to Allentown… Its all about eating right now, and drinking lots of fluids and taking it easy.
So an interesting thing happened yesterday .. I’ve been writing the past couple months about the Lehigh Valley Hospital Marathon and that it benefits an organization called Via of the Lehigh Valley, who provides services for children and adults with developmental disabilities. If you’ve also read, my daughter Sierra is 8 years old and has Down Syndrome, so the services that organizations like Via provide are beneficial in her development and integration into the community. I haven’t personally used Via, but I have seen the benefits locally in similar organizations and feel that its a great cause. Making a donation to these types of causes are critical to their survival, and supporting them is just as critical and shows that despite what some people think, i’m not that bad of a person …i’m really not ..
Regardless, the race organizers contacted me yesterday because on my race application it asked me who I was running for, and of course I wrote I was running for my daughter and shared part of the story, well I guess the race people chose my story to be featured on Channel 69-WFMZ news .. who are a media sponsor for the event. I was speechless when they called .. so I made arrangements to travel down there this evening for the taped interview and segment, however I don’t know when it will air. The worst part is that I don’t know if they’ll provide me a copy of the segment because I can’t watch it since i’m not in their service area … ugh. I’m hoping that my sister-in-law who lives in Philly might be able to watch it, or maybe they’ll feature it on Saturday night when i’m staying in Allentown, I don’t know, but I’ll be sure be share it on the blog if it becomes available…
I’m not sure what the focus of the interview/segment is, I think its a combination of why i’m running the race and my history running, along with Sierra, her development and how Via helps children with disabilities like her. They’ll see that she is a great kid, regardless of her disability…
Anyway, lots of excitement as we head into the weekend for the race .. yet another reason to get psyched for the race. I’m still concerned about the remnants of Hurricane Hanna coming up this way this weekend. They’re talking about the rain hitting Saturday on the eastern seaboard .. not sure what that means for the race, but I guess we’ll go prepared for anything.
