After a brief motivation issue, which I think i’ve addressed, and the slight injury to my left quadriceps, I think i’m back on the road to preparing for the marathon. Things are kind of in flux right now, I have to travel again tomorrow to Maryland, so my mid-week long run is in jeopardy again, but i’ll try to get in what I can… I still have not registered for Philly yet, not sure if i’m going to with the way things are going right now, i’m not sure where i’ll be at that point in time.
Regardless, I found some stories and advice on motivation for marathoning that I wanted to share. I have hit many times where motivation has been a problem, so all the tips and stories from other people do help (or at least make you realize that you’re not motivated)..
1. The mystery of mastering motivation stresses 4 key points to staying motivated when training for marathon. The main one I like to stress on his list is “Measure and compare your progress”.. it seems that everytime I have problems with training, its because i’ve failed to do this, so I think its important.
2. I felt in the same shoes as this runner with ‘eating like crap’ comment and race times slipping. Too many times have I been in the same boat and you get that ‘wake-up call’ when you run the first race (remember the OD marathon? WAKE UP!!!)
3. I guess if all else fails, you can get your heartrate up to 140BPM with this podcast. That should help to motivate you .. I thought that was cute…
So regardless of what it takes you, GET MOTIVATED! I know usually if i’m not feeling up to running, I go out anyway and usually by mile 2 or so i’m feeling better and then i’m thankful in the end that I got out. Its a weird kind of sickness, but for everything thats going on right now in life, I need to get my runs in to keep me going..
