Wow, what a shot of reality this morning as I headed out for 3 easy miles in the wake of the Marine Corps Marathon this weekend. Temperatures here were 27 degrees .. and you know what? It sure felt like it. I wore my shorts (because i’m a trooper) and 3 top layers with gloves .. and I was freezing. I drastically underestimated how cold it was going to be, and I paid the price, thankfully it was just a short run.
I ran into the same issue yesterday as well on my 14 miler where it was extremely cold when I went out, probably slightly warmer than today at around 29-30 degrees. The thing I remembered though was that I have to remember to consider the wind chill, that tends to be worse than the air temperature. It always feels good when I get into the sun, but generally when I run early enough, the sun is still behind the trees, so it doesn’t help.
I think tomorrow i’ll run in the wide open where the sun can help keep me warm. Its supposed to rain tomorrow, which sucks because if its going to rain and be cold, it makes the run just horrible, guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Things are still up in the air for the weekend, and beyond .. i’m waiting for confirmation that seems like its never going to come. I just can’t seem to win … more info later…
