So first I have to go on about how I hate when you check The Weather Channel or any other weather sources, and they tell you one thing, and the weather is just WRONG, just plain wrong from what they say. The story goes that I checked around 8:45am this morning and it was noted to be 31 degrees, with no wind, and the ‘feels like’ was 31 degrees also. I think, well, its sunny out, 31 degrees, no wind .. and I dressed accordingly for my 14 miler.
I got outside and there had to be a 10-15 mph sustained wind the whole way, which had to have brought the temperature down somewhat, because when I got home, I was frozen solid. I decided to wear my NJ marathon finishers running hat instead of my knit hat (again, due to the weather). By the time I got back, my ears were frozen solid along with other parts of my body that I can’t mention. I wish, just WISH I had a job wear I can be totally wrong in what I say, and still keep my job. Oh, to be a meteorologist.
Ok, i’m getting down off my soap box now..
So despite the weather issue, I completed 14 miles after suffering some decent back pain this way. I managed to get out on Wednesday (twice) to rack up 5.2 miles total, then another 5 miles on Thursday and wrapped it up with 6 miles yesterday. I was concerned about not having a day off before my long run today, but it didn’t appear to be an issue.
I have to say, I do love the new area I live in, I was running on a bridge over the PA turnpike today, and I had people honking to me from below. Not sure if they were a runner (or maybe a fan? lol), or maybe they just thought it’d be cool to honk at someone … either way, it made my day and really made me laugh as I went along my way. Where else can you have such camaraderie then in the Lehigh Valley???
So I also found where the recreational runners flock on Saturday mornings to get their runs in, its called Little Lehigh Park, and actually, the Lehigh Valley Half marathon goes right over this course. Anyway, I looked out of place and more of a hard-core runner then the folks I passed, which is why I assume they are more recreational then competitive like me. Seems like a nice place to run, but I really only hit the first part of the trail since I headed back up off the trails to head home.
The course I followed also took me part the Lehigh Valley hospital, where the Lehigh Valley Marathon start line in … it got me kind of pumped to see the course i’m running and since its so close to home, I intend to run all the parts of the course beforehand to get an idea of what its like now that they changed it.
So my toes are pretty beat up, my next to little toe on my right foot was bleeding profusely after my run, seems the nails going to come off. I guess the Mizuno’s are still a little snug for me, but I love them overall, and won’t give them up since they are so comfortable.
Hopefully I won’t have a back problem tomorrow as we expect to get more miles in to wrap up the week. I’m feeling good, losing weight and getting psyched for the spring season to start .. you know, its halfway through February now, only a few short weeks to go!
