Another decent week of running has gone by, and I think i’m to a point that I’ve got my base mileage down pretty good. I figure 5 weeks of building up mileage is making a daily 6 miler pretty easy nowadays, with a slightly longer run on a Wednesday. Unfortunately the weather has yet to truly break here in the Lehigh Valley, so each morning was a little colder than the one before, but believe it or not i’m getting used to it finally, its all about how you dress and prepare for the cold. All those miles help my long runs on the weekend, which in a way are getting easier …

So what does my weekday routine look like these days? Its actually gotten pretty boring day after day, but it works for me … my alarm goes off at 5:05am, I hit the snooze once, so I get out of bed at 5:10am (note the coffee is set to brew at 5:05am so its ready for me), by the time I get geared up with the pants, the shirts, etc, its 5:15am at which time I head downstairs, drink my coffee, take my vitamins and watch the news until 5:35am (note that at 5:30am, I get the weather report for how cold it is, what the wind is, etc) and then I head out. I’m back by 6:20, make my lunch, take a shower and head out for work at 7:20am … it was rough getting back into a routine after my time off from running when I was in transition moving to my new house. The good part is that it only gets easier as go and it gets warmer, because it takes less time to dress as the weather gets warmer (i can’t wait!)

I was just celebrating the other morning how the sun is pretty much coming up now by the time I get back from my run, its really soothing compared to the days of late December and early January where it was dark, just dark, really dark! But I remember that its not long lived because in two weeks, we set the clocks ahead again, which means, I have to run in the dark again! Oh well, it won’t be too much longer in the dark .. I always note that by the time mid-June comes, i’ll be out running at 5am because the sun comes up that early, so its not that far off!

My 15 miler today went pretty good, a little better than last week I guess .. I think the thing thats killing me right now is the fact that i’m about 10 lbs heavier than I should be, which is 10 additional pounds i’m carrying for 15 miles, which doesn’t help. The weight is coming off, but slowly, and it’ll take another 6-8 weeks to knock off more weight and hopefully the longs runs will help it. I’ve been eating good and the training has been consistent, but I can’t seem to get the weight off .. oh well, i know it’ll come off at some point!

Tomorrow might be a snow run in the morning, which i’m not afraid of, I actually enjoy it to some degree, its like going skiing, except without the skis! Its not supposed to be too bad, but probably enough to be annoying, but NO EXCUSES! I’ve been keeping with my motto, and its been working for me … on to rest..
