I decided to venture out today and get my 15 miler in around here instead of heading to the trails that i’ve been doing on previous weekends. The main reason is that i’m down a car right now due to some guy smashing into my wifes van, I didn’t want to park my BMW in a side parking lot outside of Allentown .. too much of a chance for a problem, we’ll have to figure out how to get around it in future runs until I replace the other car…. Anyway, I went out on the course that used to kick my butt back in February and March, and it pretty well kicked my butt again. Its a whole different ballgame when you’re running hills ..
I did accomplish one thing, and that was to get the concept of the long run back in my head. I was looking back at the last times I ran it, and I just went too fast .. so i started reminding myself again today that I have to slow the pace down for the long run. I found myself a few times going too fast and not keeping my longer stride that i’m working towards and it seemed to work. My biggest issue was that I didn’t take any water with me, and it was brutally warm (around 70 degrees) .. I was quite dehydrated, I should have known better I guess…
So now I have the task of getting my supplies together and prepare myself for training to start on Monday.. I think i’m ready though, it was a wake up call today that I have 18 weeks to sort out these long runs, and work on the things that I need to in preparation for the fall.
The big thing, and i’ll say it again, is adding speedwork and getting this weight off. It will take 5-7 weeks to lose the babyfat that i’m picked up over the last 6 months, but it’ll come off pretty quick I hope …
Thats about it, just prepping for training … another 10 miler tomorrow to wrap it up before we start .. hopefully the weather won’t be as brutal tomorrow, but we’ll have to wait and see…
